At the moment, hackers of stolen Facebook accounts spread a dangerous virus spam. Security firms and experts strongly believe Russian internet hackers are behind this attack now.

The user names and passwords from Facebook was stolen by cyber criminal earlier this year and late last year are now using these accounts to send out spam. This new development to utilize Facebook to spread malicious software indicates how cyber crime comes in waves and does not end with the initial attack.

Cyber criminal misused user accounts and passwords to send email with malicious content to their friend’s accounts. Some of the spam sent an email to to asks you  to buy certain male enhancement products and such things, while others are more malicious than that. Also, some spam direct you to advertisements software sites that installs malicious software on your computer without you knowing it at all.

This spam mail began on May 7th and Facebook began to block some accounts where this behavior started. To solves this problem , Facebook reset passwords after they delete the spam to those accounts with suspicious behavior.

One of the web pages used for redirecting in one of the spam mails are loaded with attack codes and is used to install malicious software. A  Lithuanian server are the hosted of these pages that is associated with other cyber crime activities. The attacks are assumed by security experts to be linked to cyber criminals that are well known to the internet security experts around the world. Russian Business Network  as know as  RBN is the one f the organizations thought to be implicated into this.

To trick Facebook users, it give up id and passwords are false log in pages. Then , they use an attack method called phishing with the same design as Facebook

Currently, there are no official numbers on how many Facebook users have been cheated to give up their account details in this way. Since, Facebook says relatively low number compared to the amount of users of their system and it not in the same situation as the  Koobface virus in 2008.
